CHARITY/COMMUNITY

At the heart of HKSC+ lies the spirit of benevolence and generosity. We firmly believe that every person, regardless of their socioeconomic status, ethnicity, or cultural background, deserves the opportunity to live a dignified, fulfilling life. As a privately owned clinic, we are committed to leveraging our resources and expertise to make a positive impact for those who are disadvantaged and marginalized. That’s why we are passionate about bringing our professionalism, top-quality care, and genuine compassion to different communities in need. Over the years, we have pioneered

and actively participated in various give-back initiatives, which serve as a testament to our unwavering commitment to turning our words into actions and making a positive difference for individuals and communities. We will continue to strive towards a more equitable and just society.

Here are the highlights of initiatives HKSC+ has taken on over the years.

The SHINE Program 2.0 - Free Physiotherapy for Genuinely Underprivileged Youth Athletes in Hong Kong

SHINE Program 2.0 is a charitable initiative providing free, high-quality physiotherapy services to genuinely underprivileged youth athletes (aged 24 & under) of all ethnic backgrounds.
We focus on helping young athletes who face real financial barriers to sports participation — such as those from low-income households or without parental/family support — so they can recover from injury, prevent future setbacks, and reach their full potential.
Eligibility
        •       Age: 24 or below
        •       Household Income: HKD20,000/month or less

        •       Individual Sports: Recent placement in interschool competitions OR selection as a national team representative
        •       Team Sports: Division 1 or Division 2 league player OR selection as a national team representative
        •       Special Consideration: If you are a promising athlete with genuine financial or family hardship who doesn’t fully meet the above criteria, contact us to discuss.

We reserve the right to request evidence of family income or independence from family to ensure this program reaches those with genuine need.

Why SHINE?
        •       Focused Impact – Designed for athletes who would otherwise struggle to afford proper injury care
        •       Merit Meets Need – Prioritising those with both strong sporting potential and financial hardship
        •       Inclusive & Respectful – Serving all ethnicities in Hong Kong, with confidentiality and compassion

Free Clinic for Foreign Domestic Helpers

The Free Clinic for Foreign Domestic Helpers is a program that provides free physiotherapy, chiropractic, and osteopathic services to Foreign Domestic Helpers in Hong Kong. We recognize that the Helpers face challenges due to their physically demanding work, emotional stress, and lack of access to quality healthcare.

At HKSC+, we initiated this program five years ago and have provided over 1000 hours (about 1 and a half months) of one-to-one treatment and rehabilitation services to hundreds of FDWs. Our aim is to help them take control of their health and improve their quality of life.

We are proud to provide free services to Foreign Domestic Helpers who need them and will continue to do so.

Inspiring Stories

Despite the challenges that Foreign Domestic Helpers face, we have seen many inspiring stories of their perseverance and optimism. One of the prime examples is Hermilin Esmalla, a Helper from the Philippines who has been working in Hong Kong for 12 years.

Hermilin has always been active in various sports, including distance running and dragon boating, and is always looking for new challenges. Two years ago, she started playing tag rugby and fell in love with the game’s teamwork aspect, as well as its inclusive and welcoming community.

This year, Hermilin was selected to be part of the Hong Kong team in the 2023 Tag Rugby World Cup in Ireland. However, as the training and games leading up to the World Cup intensified, Hermilin developed a pain at the back of her knee, which was inhibiting her running and ability to play.

Through a friend’s recommendation, she started attending physiotherapy at HKSC+. Within two weeks of treatment and rehabilitation, Hermilin was running faster than ever and back to her top performance. We at HKSC+ continued to support her with physiotherapy up to her departure for the World Cup.

We are proud to have played a role in helping Hermilin realize this opportunity of her lifetime. Her story is a testament to the resilience and determination of Foreign Domestic Helpers, and we will continue to support them through the Free Clinic for Foreign Domestic Helpers program.

Her story was covered in South China Morning Post: link SCMP – Hermelin Esmalla shows age just a number, named in Hong Kong’s Tag Rugby World Cup squad

Fund Raising and Other Activities

Over the years, we have and continue to support causes that are close to our hearts through various fundraising and charitable activities.

Through in-house bake sales, engaging in fundraising events, and participating in charity runs, we have raised funds for numerous registered charities. We carefully select the charities we get involved with, ensuring that our contributions go towards organizations with a proven track record of making a positive impact.

In addition to fundraising, we have also taken meaningful action by collecting second hand mobility aids. With these donations, we were able to provide underprivileged adults and children in Hong Kong with access to necessary equipment that they may not have had otherwise. This initiative allowed us to make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need, and we are proud to have been a part of it.
